Memorable moments that happened on this day in City’s history...

Sunday 29th May 1949

Brian Kidd is born in North Manchester.

Kidd forges a successful career with Manchester United and then Arsenal before joining City in a deal worth £110,000 in 1976. ‘Kiddo’ would play a large part in City’s successful mid-1970s team and he seemed to enjoy ruffling the feathers of one or two former team-mates during the Manchester derby games.

He took 10 games in the League to find the net for his new club and by the end of November he’d managed just one strike in 13 games. But if there were any doubters, they were well and truly silenced as Kidd suddenly hit form – and then some.

He scored ten goals in his next seven outings and struck four times in a 5–0 win over Leicester City, finishing the season with 21 goals from 39 games - his efforts  had almost helped bring home the Championship in his first season. He scored 57 goals in 128 games for the Blues before joining Everton in March 1979 for £150,000.
