Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.

Saturday 12th March 1932

Peter Hodge leaves the club to take up the managerial post at former club Leicester City. He was another manager to lead the club to a Second Division title in 1928 as City flit between divisions and struggled for consistency and a permanent manager. Hodge won 120 out of his 256 games in charge of the club.

Having already scored 16 goals in the four games leading up to the FA Cup semi-final, City fans were hopeful they could edge past the mighty Arsenal, if not confident. The Gunners had won 3-1 at Maine Road and 4-0 at Highbury and were challenging strongly for the title, while City languished in lower mid-table. The Blues put up a decent fight in the game staged at Villa Park, but lose to a solitary goal, allowing Arsenal to go on and face Newcastle United in the final at Wembley.
