Ron Saunders becomes the first of Peter Swales’ 11 managerial appointments during his time as Chairman - but like John Benson, Jimmy Frizzell, Phil Neal and Howard Kendall in years to come, Saunders spends less than a year in charge of the club and despite leading his side into the 1974 League Cup final, he leaves for Aston Villa in April of the same year after failing to win over the dressing room.
