Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Saturday 29th November 1980
Bargain buy midfielder Gerry Gow scores twice as City continue their climb away from the foot of the table under new manager John Bond with a 3-2 win at Crystal Palace.
Kevin Reeves scores the Blues’ other goal in the win at Selhurst Park.
Wednesday 29 November 1989
Mel Machin is sacked by Peter Swales, despite having beaten Manchester United 5-1 on 23 September 1989 in his first season back in the top flight – a match that Sir Alex Ferguson described as the lowest point of his career.
Machin led the club out of the second tier of English football with a promising squad during his second season at the helm, but Swales claims his manager had no rapport with the supporters, but it’s more likely a 6-0 defeat at Derby was the former Norwich boss’ undoing.
