Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Friday 8th November 1996
Steve Coppell resigns from his post as City manager after only six games in charge hinting the position was too stressful for him.
Coppell had left Crystal Palace to move to Maine Road and despite his Manchester United connections, he was welcomed by the City faithful and began his reign with a 2-2 draw against QPR.
A defeat to Reading followed before Coppell recorded his first win as City boss, a 2-1 win over Norwich before Wolves beat the Blues 1-0.
City then beat Southend 3-2 at Roots Hall but lost 2-0 at Swindon Town in what would be Coppell’s last game in charge.
At 33 days, his reign remains the shortest of any City manager.
