Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Wednesday 6 October
City beat Reading 2-1 at Elm Park to move into the third round of the League Cup. Having drawn the first leg 1-1 at Maine Road a week earlier, the Royals were looking for an upset in front of a crowd of 10,052, but goals from Steve Lomas (below) and Niall Quinn edge the game the Blues’ way and Brian Horton’s side progress 3-2 on aggregate. The Blues saw off Chelsea in the next round before losing a replay in Round 4 to future City boss Frank Clark’s Nottingham Forest.
