Looking back through the history books for the events, signings and memorable matches that happened on this day in City’s history.
Wednesday 27th September 1978
After drawing 1-1 with FC Twente in Holland in the UEFA Cup 1st round, 1st leg, City stumble into the second round with a 3-2 victory over the Dutchmen.
An own goal from Wildschut and further efforts from Brian Kidd and substitute Colin Bell prove just enough to edge home 3-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate.
The Blues are then paired with Belgian outfit Standard Liege for the right to progress to the last 16 of the competition and will see them off comprehensively over two legs, winning 4-0 at Maine Road and losing 2-0 in the return.
