Kelvin targets starting place

Kelvin Etuhu wants to build on an encouraging start to his senior City career.

The 19-year-old has made two substitute appearances so far this season, against Norwich in the Carling Cup and against Wigan last Saturday, and he aims to repay the faith that Sven-Goran Eriksson has shown in him.

With Didi Hamann suspended, there's every chance he could be on the bench again at White Hart Lane this Sunday, but Kelvin has told mcfc.co.uk that it's a place in the starting lineup that he covets.

"I’m definitely aiming for a start now," Kelvin declares. "I’m going to keep working hard in training and listen to the Manager and all the other coaches here. Hopefully I’ll get another chance and if I do I’ll do my best to take it.

"There's no doubt that the young lads here are getting a chance to break into the first team. If you show the Manager that you have some ability and the right attitude, you’ll get a chance. It’s all about taking the chance when it comes, and if the opportunity comes again I’ll hopefully make the most of it."

Kelvin's not the only member of the Etuhu family to make his Premier League bow this season, former Blue Dickson has been a regular face in the Sunderland side and he has given his younger brother some valuable advice.

"Dickson told me to keep concentrating and keep focussed, not to switch off because someone can make a run behind you if you're not right at it just for a second. He also told me not to be nervous, just to go out and express myself," Kelvin concludes.
