Dietmar Hamann has lent a helping hand at a centre for the homeless in Stockport as part of the Creating Chances initiative.
City’s German midfielder served food and drinks and spent time chatting to people that drop in at The Wellspring, a resource centre for homeless and disadvantaged people and is open every day of the year.
As a registered charity, it relies upon donations from businesses, organisations and the general public in order to provide the many services that are available for people who are sleeping rough or homeless.
Didi enjoyed himself helping out and was a big hit with everyone who met him, and he’s a big supporter of what both The Wellspring and City do.
“City as a club does a lot more things in and for the community,” says Didi, “more than any other club I have known. It is important to keep a bond with people whatever background they come from.
“It’s great that clubs who have these resources can go out and help people and show there is a chance for everyone. It’s always important that we as players give something back because we have a privileged life and we shouldn’t forget that there are people who, for whatever reason, are not in the situation that they would want to be in.
“I feel it is vital that the club and the whole football family show commitment to those in society who are disadvantaged. It is great that we can support The Wellspring.”
The Wellspring centre is located on Fletcher Street, Stockport, and can be contacted on 0161 477 6344 or via email: thewellspring@btconnect.com
