Following on from yesterday’s introduction to the Premier League’s Creating Chances charity work, today sees us focus on Kasper Schmeichel’s appearance at Wythenshawe Hospital’s, Nightingale Centre.

We caught up with the 19-year-old at the centre where he explained to us: “We’re here to support the Genesis Appeal and they are the only cancer prevention charity in the country.

“There are other charities that are more about the cure of the illness, but the Genesis Appeal is all about the prevention.

“One in 10 women will get breast cancer at some stage in their life and that’s quite a scary thought. We’re trying to do something about that and get it down to none in 10.”

And that could become a reality with the addition of the £14 million, state-of-the-art centre, which is Europe’s first ever, purpose built breast cancer prevention centre and was unveiled in July of this year.

The Blues stopper took part in promotional photos, such as the one below and joined the ‘Paint it Pink’ campaign along the way, by having one of his 10 fingernails painted pink to support the Genesis Appeal.

He was only too happy to oblige and afterwards said of the campaign: “It’s extremely important and anything we can do to heighten the awareness is a good thing.

“We’re very lucky the way we have a lot of free time and the least we can do is come out and give something back to the community – particularly a charity such as the Genesis Appeal.”

And the factor that the Genesis Appeal is a cancer prevention charity is something that is important to the Blues’ young keeper.

He revealed: “My mother has a charity for ovarian cancer and currently my grandma is in hospital with brain cancer, so the nature of this appeal is close to my heart.”
