Gareth Barry will be back for England's crucial group game against Algeria on Friday night.

The City midfielder, who missed the disappointing 1-1 draw with the USA on Saturday night, is now fully fit after damaging ankle ligaments in the last week of the season.

England manager Fabio Capello, who leans on Barry to anchor midfield, confirmed: "Gareth will play this Friday. He is okay, there is no problem. He has trained very well and he is fit."

Barry, who slept in an oxygen tent to speed up his recovery process after being injured against Tottenham, admitted he would have "bitten Capello's hand off" to face the USA.

His return for the second Group C game will also go down well with his England team-mates.

Striker Wayne Rooney said: "We know what a player he is. He can sit and hold for us, keep the ball and he's good in possession. He's a different option if the manager decides to pick him."
