Mario Balotelli endured some rough treatment as Italy lost 1-0 to Uruguay in Rome.
Balotelli, who scored with a superb dipping drive against Poland at the weekend, had a bruising evening against the Uruguayans who appeared to single the City star out for special treatment in a fiesty encounter.
Mario was floored three times in the first half, receiving treatment each time and picked up a yellow card after the break - and Roberto Mancini no doubt watched on, concerned with Newcastle next up for the Blues this weekend.
Sebastien Fernandez scored the only goal of the game for the South Americans after just three minutes.
There was better news in Colombia where Sergio Aguero climbed off the bench to score a dramatic later winner for Argentina, who had been trailing 1-0 at the break.
The City striker had been on the pitch for just 17 minutes when he tucked home an 85th-minute winner to put his nation's World Cup qualifying campaign firmly back on track Pablo Zabaleta played the full 90 minutes with Lionel Messi scoring the equaliser in a 2-1 win.
David Silva also took just 17 minutes to find the net after replacing Cesc Fabregas in the 65th minute of Spain's clash in Costa Rica

With the hosts 2-0 up at the time, Silva's goal set up a grandstand finish with David Villa equalising on full-time to earn a 2-2 draw.
Nigel de Jong started on the bench as Holland took on Germany in Hamburg, but appeared on 64 minutes - by which time the Dutch were already 3-0 down - at least the City enforcer helped steady the ship with the score remaining the same.
Vincent Kompany's Belgium took on France who were without Gael Clichy and the injured Samir Nasri. Kompany, partnered in defence by former Blue Daniel van Buyten, had a solid 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Les Blues.
