Road to Brazil 2014: European look ahead

City’s host of European stars are in action again tomorrow as they continue along the road to Brazil 2014.

Blues’ players will feature in five of the European qualifiers with the titanic clash between David Silva’s Spain and Gael Clichy’s France the headline fixture.

Spain will be boosted by their 4-0 win over Belarus at the weekend, while Les Bleus will be out to prove a point after their 1-0 friendly defeat at the hands of Japan at the Stade de France on Friday.

The meeting in the Spanish capital is a repeat of the Euro 2012 quarter-final in Ukraine, which saw Spain progress 2-0 en route to victory in the final over Italy.

The two sides go into the match level on six points in Group I with both looking to make it three wins from three.

As mentioned in our media round-up, City striker Mario Balotelli looks set to make a return to the Italy fold as they welcome winless Denmark to the San Siro.

Balotelli missed the Azzuri’s win in Aremenia on Friday due to flu-like symptoms, but according to the national team’s doctor, he is on the mend after a weekend of light training.

If he does play, it will be the 22-year-old’s first appearance for his country since the final of Euro 2012 where Cesare Prandelli’s men suffered a 4-0 beating at the hands of La Roja.

The striker was absent for Italy’s two opening World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria and Malta last month after undergoing laser surgery on his eyes.

Meanwhile, City trio Joe HartJames Milner and Joleon Lescott are all in Poland as England prepare to face Waldemar Fornalik’s men in Warsaw.

Both Lescott and Milner were on the bench for the Three Lions’ 5-0 thrashing of San Marino and so it is likely they will feature tomorrow night.

Roy Hodgson’s men will be hoping for another three points to cement their position at the top of Group H.

Elsewhere Aleksandar Kolarov and Matija Nastasic’s Serbia side are away to Macedonia, Edin Dzeko's Bosnia host Lithuania while Vincent Kompany’s Belgium take on Scotland.
