City’s assistant manager David Platt confirmed Vincent Kompany has tweaked his calf muscle and won’t be available for the midweek trip to QPR.
The Blues’ captain limped off just past the half-hour mark of the 1-0 victory over Stoke and will miss the trip to Loftus Road in midweek and faces a race against time to face Liverpool a week on Sunday.
“We will have to assess the injury over the next 24 hours to get a better picture but he won’t play against QPR.
We went to a back three when Vincent came off and Gael came on, but we felt we needed to go back to four later in the game and Javi Garcia was superb when he went alongside Joleon
“We had a number of chances so we’re disappointed we’ve not won by more but everyone knows this is a tough place to come at the best of times so we have to be happy.
“I thought our defenders were excellent today and did exactly what you need to do when facing the aerial threat Stoke pose so on that score, we’re very happy to leave here with a clean sheet.
“It wasn’t strange to see Pablo Zabaleta in that area because he often supports the attack and we encourage our full-backs to get forward whenever they can.
"He was in the right place and took the opportunity really well. We want to win both competitions that we’re still involved in and we’ll look forward to the draw tomorrow.”
Match-winner Zabaleta was delighted with his goal and the result. The Argentina star took over the skipper’s armband and produced yet another superb display from right-back in a season that just keeps getting better and better for him.
“It’s always nice to score and three goals for a full-back is not too bad!” he smiled.
Today was a massive win for us because it’s always a hard place to come but we defended really well and were aggressive in attack so I think we deserved to win
“We won the FA Cup two years ago and we want to win it again but now we will focus on Tuesday night and QPR because we want to keep winning and hopefully catch Man United.”
