We begin this week with news that George Swan has embarked on a month-long loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

We’ll be bringing you updates on his progress from next week.

Elsewhere, Abdi Ibrahim scored the opening goal for Stromsgodset in their convincing 3-1 win over Odds Ballklubb. His side are now second in the Norwegian Eliteserien and chasing domestic honours.

Closer to home, Gareth Barry put in a Man of the Match performance in Everton’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea.

Barry impressed the Toffees fans and the watching media on his debut for Roberto Martinez’s side with his reading of the game and vital interceptions.

The Mirror’s David Anderson wrote of the England international: “Barry was immense and his excellent performance was summed up by his goal-saving block on Samuel Eto'o.

“He showed all his 32 years of experience as he anticipated the play, nipping in to win the ball and launch Everton forward.

“On top of this he seemed to have the legs of a 22-year-old, as he covered every blade of the Goodison Park pitch.”

EDS forward Harry Bunn has come off the bench twice for Sheffield United in the last two weeks as he begins life in League One. The youngster saw 15 minutes of action in the 1-0 loss to Carlisle and played the last 21 minutes of a 3-1 loss to Rotherham.

The Blades now find themselves in the relegation places, so Harry’s presence could be vital in the coming weeks.

He spoke to the Sheffield United club website about his early experiences at the club.

After an exceedingly promising start to life in the Eredivisie with PSV, Karim Rekik suffered an ankle injury which required an operation. The young centre-back tweeted that the surgery had been a success, but the length of his lay-off is not yet known.

Clearly enjoying life on loan in the Championship, Reece Wabara has nailed down a regular starting berth with Paul Dickov’s Doncaster.

The defender chalked up 180 minutes of action this week as part of the back line which kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s stalemate with Huddersfield and was involved from the start once more as his side suffered a 2-1 loss on Tuesday to Watford, courtesy of a late penalty.

Scott Sinclair came on as a 63rd minute sub as West Bromwich Albion aimed to salvage a point away at Fulham on Saturday.

Although the Baggies managed to grab a late equaliser, Sinclair struggled to make an impact on the match and will be hoping for better in this weekend’s home encounter with Sunderland.

Midfielder Abdul Razak was called up for the Ivory Coast for the recent World Cup Qualifiers, but was unable to make his debut for loan club Anzhi Makhachkala on his return to Russia due to a tight hamstring.

He will be hoping to make his bow for the club in their Europa League fixture on Thursday night.

Mohammed Abu was not involved for AGF Aarhus as they went down 1-0 to Viborg at the weekend.
