There was a real sense of two cities coming together this morning as an official press conference was held following yesterday’s announcement about the formation of New York City FC.

In a show of solidarity, mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg joined representatives from the club, Major League Soccer and the New York Yankees to address the masses of assembled press about the ground-breaking development.

It seemed very fitting that the event was staged at The Lexington Academy - the site of one of the club’s long standing community projects in the city.

In 2010, City opened a first-of-its-kind roof top football pitch at the Spanish Harlem school and three years later it was playing host to one of the biggest developments the club has seen in recent years.

The appearance of the City players added an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings and much to the kids' delight, there was time to squeeze in a short skills session on their much loved pitch! Here's what principal Antonio Hernandez had to say.

A training session of a different kind was to follow with a trip to New Jersey to watch the New York Giants in action at the Timex Performance Center.

The squad arrived in time to catch the end of the session before being introduced to a number of the players and it wasn’t long before we saw some of the lads accepting Justin Tuck’s invitation to get on the receiving end of a throw!

Having played his part, the defensive end was keen to witness some soccer skills and after a lot of coaxing, Abdul Razak stepped up to perform a few tricks!

The visit concluded with a behind the scenes tour of the state of the art training facilities and dressing room which one could not failt to be impressed with! All the behind the scenes footage will be coming up on, but  in the meantime, here's a taste of reaction from Micah Richards.

With the match against Chelsea in St Louis just over 24 hours away, the team’s attention turned to their own affairs starting with a training session at Montclair State University.

Brian Kidd put the team through their paces and newly appointed EDS manager Patrick Vieira even joined in the session in the sweltering sun!

A Tweet from the St Louis Cardinals signalled that Busch Stadium has been well prepared ahead of the clash between the two Premier League sides and we’re very much looking forward to the match in the Rome of the West – see you in Missouri!
