So many good players, so few starting places. It's a top football club's perennial problem, and Martin Petrov's current claim is highlighted by David Anderson in the Mirror.

Fans' favourite "Rigsby" made an impact once more as he stepped in for the injured Craig Bellamy at Wigan and scored the Blues' crucial equaliser, his second goal in successive games.

The competition out on the left also includes that bloke Robinho, who will be back again soon, but Martin insists that his performances "deserve a starting place," reports the Mirror.

Anderson, known for his keen news sense, quotes Petrov: "I'm happy with my form. I want to show the manager I should have a place in this team. I'm happy here. I love the fans - they are behind me when I am injured and now in this difficult time for me."

David A also includes a glowing verdict from Mark Hughes, the man charged with squeezing a quart into a pint pot when all his stars are fit.

He adds: "Petrov's form gives Hughes a headache and the City boss admitted: 'He was excellent. He got us on level terms with a great finish. There is a defensive side as well and he is recognising it."

Elsewhere, the Telegraph's Henry Winter, who probably sees more Premier League games than any other No.1 writer, names Gareth Barry in his England XI picked purely on form. He also includes Ryan Shawcross, Lee Cattermole and Darren Bent. What d'you reckon, Fabio?
