Luiz back in the frame?

Regular WTPS readers will be used to seeing the same old names cropping up in the same breath as City, so this morning we have one who's slipped off the radar for a few weeks.

Brazilian defender David Luiz is linked with us yet again, this time in an Alan Nixon exclusive in the Mirror. Apparently we are willing to outbid Chelsea to secure the services of the Benfica player.

That we already have a battalion of defenders already does not seem to matter, with Alan going on to say:

"City believe they will win the race - even if it means paying over the odds for a player yet again.

"Coach Roberto Mancini wants Luiz signed quickly to let him sort out his defence and then push out some well-known faces when he trims his squad to 25 for the Premier League rules.

"City already have a handful of top centre halves but Mancini believes Luiz, who also plays left back, is the answer and negotiations are at an advanced stage.

"Luiz’s signing would push the likes of Vincent Kompany and Joleon Lescott down the pecking order as Mancini and his team put the squeeze on Mark Hughes’s signings." Maybe it's a case of 'a club wants a player, therefore City could outbid them'? You be the judge!

The Times throws Everton, Fulham and Newcastle United into the mix of clubs "jockeying for position" for the services of Craig Bellamy. Over at the Sun, Martin Blackburn has Yaya Toure giving the bad boys of the Premier League a "blast" for their undisciplined ways.

'Ivory Coast midfielder Toure said: "In order to get what you want in life you have to have order and discipline.

"You have to have rules of life: Behave well, respect your surroundings, not smoke, not drink, not go out impulsively.

"You must have control, because excesses can lead to anything.

"I don't go to discos, they don't attract me. The music's very loud, there's the smell of cigarettes. You see people talking and smiling - but you don't know what they're saying. It's not my thing."' Me neither, Yaya.
