Tigers take a bite out of City

Saturday's defeat at Hull makes for grim reading this morning.

None of the papers pull their punches, with this excerpt from the Telegraph being a typical example:

"It was a thoroughly inept performance from Manchester City, only finding their game in the final third of the match and almost burgling a point their play scarcely deserved."

One bright point of yesterday's showing was the first appearance in a City shirt of Adam Johnson, who posed Hull several problems in his second-half substitute appearance. However England manager Fabio Capello appears not to be that keen on the winger's move across the Pennines, and in the Mail on Sunday he voices his concern that Adam won't get the match action he feels is needed.

"It is very important that those players make a big step forward this year and then the same next year," he said. "I like Johnson - but all these players have to play. At the moment Gibbs and Walcott are not playing.

"You've seen what has happened to Joe Hart now he is playing at Birmingham. This year he has improved a lot because he plays."

But at least it proves that Adam could have a bright future at the highest level if Mr Capello is looking his way, so let's hope he builds on what we saw at the KC Stadium.
