Now your morning perusal of the national press wouldn’t be complete without a ‘Redknapp wants Bellamy’ story would it?

This one has been rumbling on since May and shows no signs of running out of fuel – the only surprise is that anyone would label it ‘exclusive’!

Alan Nixon in the Daily Mirror claims exactly that today saying that the wily old Spurs boss is preparing a cut-price offer for Bellamy due to losing out on Joe Cole.

“Redknapp is keen to land long-term target Bellamy and hopes City will let him go on the cheap – possibly for as little as £3m, after replacing him with David Silva,” he writes.

There must be other players to write about, but it seems Fernando Torres, Joe Cole and Bellers are the trio that must be mentioned every day and it’s something numerous tabloids are guilty of.

Elsewhere Tony Cascarino tips Adam Johnson to impress this season for both club and country in his column in The Times. The words ‘safe’ and ‘bet’ spring to mind.

...what the papers say

“Young, exciting, developing fast, he’s quicker and better at going past players than James Milner and more tricky as well,” writes Cas.

“The 23-year-old could be a big hit for City and England. No reason why he can’t impress in the same way Germany’s talented young midfielders did at the World Cup finals.”

Finally, Ryan Giggs has his say about the Blues in several papers this morning. After being quoted by Mark Ogden in The Daily Telegraph as saying he believes if City gel, Roberto’s boys will be a force to be reckoned with, Giggs then states: “Until we play them, I don’t take any notice of what City are doing, just like any other team.”

Despite that last sentence, it sounds like Mr Giggs has been taking a very real interest in the Blues over the summer...
