Crazy talent 'makes sense for City'

There's increasing speculation today that Mario Balotelli will be joining City from Inter Milan - and it seems they're starting to worry about the competition in some places.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has already tipped the Blues as title contenders, and now another rival boss joins him in a Mail back-page splash headed, inevitably, "Super Mario!"

"Carlo Ancelotti has predicted Manchester City will challenge for the Premier League title if they add the 'crazy talent' of Mario Balotelli to their bulging squad," writes Leo Spall.

He adds that Chelsea's manager "is an admirer of the eccentric young forward and believes he will be a huge hit in England", while pointing out that as yet there is no deal in place.

Leo quotes Ancelotti: "With him, City will challenge for the title, not just fourth place. The Premier League is the ideal place for him. Mario is a crazy talent."

The Blues, of course, will face Roberto Mancini's exes Inter in Baltimore this weekend, and the Balotelli connection guarantees a healthy squad from Her Majesty's Press Corps.

We here at WTPS Towers are delighted to see Mark Hughes has been confirmed as the new boss of Fulham and send him our best wishes. Not sure about sending him Craig Bellamy though.

The instant speculation is that Hughesy will now try to tempt Bellers, who he signed for Blackburn and City and also managed for Wales, with Stephen Ireland also being mentioned.

But Express man Matt Dunn quotes "a source close to Bellamy" as saying: "Craig wants to stay at City and force his way into the team. He wants to win trophies and medals.

"He clearly has that opportunity at City. He knows he can do that at City over the coming seasons and thinks he has a lot to contribute."

The usual transfer suspects are being mentioned in various places, and there's a correction from the Guardian after describing Villa boss Martin O'Neill as City's manager. Easily done.
