Humdinger of a season on the cards

Oh no, what's that coming over the hill at a ground near you? Vuvuzelas, thousands of 'em. Or maybe not, according to Simon Bird's investigation into the sound of the future.

This might well seem like deja vuvu all over again after the eardrum-bashing phenomenon of "the two-foot long horns (that) were a symbol of the World Cup".

The Mirror's man in the north-east with the earplugs and the pained expression has checked out the 20 Premier League clubs for their policy this season on the vuvuzelas.

Birdy writes that "Arsenal yesterday outlawed them from the Emirates and Spurs - presumably not wanting to annnoy their neighbours - ensured that White Hart Lane will echo only with the sound of traditional cheering next season."

The Mirror's sub-editor gleefully tags it "Quiet Hart Lane" in the headline, by the way, as Simon reports City's stance that we have "no official policy against them, not an issue".

Which means that they are allowed at CoMS, unlike at several other Premier League grounds. Meanwhile, the buzz is that a few clubs - including some big noises - are blowing hot and cold ...

The Daily Star, ever on the alert, has been quick to catch onto mcfc.co.uk's exclusive over in America with the City players meeting Olympic multi-gold medallist Carl Lewis.

Bill Thornton, no slouch at news-gathering, is first out of the blocks with his report of the US sprint legend's motivational chat at Nike HQ, headed "Lewis speeds up City glory chase".

He writes that a club spokesperson "said Lewis' words were inspirational". As you'd expect from one of the greatest athletes of all time.

Elsewhere, the Star, Express and Mirror all expect Benjani to sign for Wolves, while the Mail reports that full-back Shaleum Logan is having trials at Sheffield United.
