One story dominates this morning’s papers more than any other with the Blues once again linked with a move for Fernando Torres.

James Ducker in The Times carries a lengthy piece on Roberto Mancini’s progress to date, with a balanced piece on City’s transfer activity over the summer.

“There is one player, in particular, Mancini cherishes and believes would significantly improve City’s chances of wrestling the title from Chelsea’s grasp,” he writes.

“If Torres does leave Liverpool, it will probably be for Chelsea – but City are lurking in the wings, happy to bide their time.”

The Daily Telegraph, Express, Guardian, Sun, Star and Independent all have similar stories as speculation surrounding the talented Spaniard ratchets up a level following Roy Hodgson’s claim the player has “a beef with the club.”

Elsewhere, another talented Spanish star plying his trade on Merseyside continues to be reported as being a City target.

Talismanic Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta is the focus of Peter Edwards story in the Daily Express, claiming the player has rejected the chance to become the Toffees’ highest paid player ever and could now be available for £25m.

“Manchester City and Arsenal have been alerted,” writes Edwards, “along with several La Liga clubs including Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.”

Edwards goes on to quote Arteta’s agent adding a note of caution: “Everton are asking a lot of money so it is difficult for Mikel to exit the club.”

Stories on Robinho (Mail), Stephen Ireland (several) and Vladimir Weiss (Times) are abundant, too – in fact, pick up any paper today and you’ll have plenty to read about the Blues... as ever!
