Robinho growing a beard, Martin Petrov set for Bolton and a Boateng brothers feud are the main points of interest in today’s papers.
Robinho is, according to David James Smith in the Sunday Mirror, following instructions from the heavens regarding the new facial hair.
“I’m not growing the beard to look scary,” he is quoted as saying. “It’s for aesthetic reasons. The beard had a good debut. An ugly face for beautiful football, if that’s what God wants.”
If it works, don’t knock it!
Elsewhere several stories suggest Martin Petrov will join Bolton Wanderers this week after undergoing a scan to prove his fitness. The best of the Pet headlines was the News of the World’s ‘Coyle has a new Pet’, though nobody has come up with a ‘Pet’s at Home’ title as yet.
A family feud between the Boateng brothers makes for fascinating reading in the Mail on Sunday. Though uncredited, the story suggests that City-bound Jerome Boateng and brother Kevin-Prince no longer talk to each other following the latter’s tackle on German captain Michael Ballack.
With the pair set to face each other in a crucial final group match between Jerome’s Germany and Kevin-Prince’s Ghana next week, expect fireworks if the falling out is as serious as the quotes suggest.
“Kevin thought I should have criticised Ballack and defended him,” Jerome is reported to have said. “Now I don’t care what he does. It really doesn’t interest me.”
