City ace Tevez special for Jose?

Every so often you get one that swims against the current, and while the grapevine buzzes about possible incomings, the People slaps us in the face with a raid ON City.

Intrepid reporter Alan Nixon spent Saturday chasing tales while you were sunbathing and watching the World Cup, and he thinks he's struck gold with a move for Carlos Tevez.

Nicko gets an "exclusive" tag for his story that Jose Mourinho is planning "a staggering £40million bid" to take hitman Carlito to Real Madrid.

Well-connected Al points out the irony of  the Special One throwing big bucks at the Blues' Argentine hero, since he once turned down the chance to make Chelsea Tevez's first English club.

But he argues: "However, Tevez's work rate and passion has made him one of Europe's most wanted men and he would fit in well with the work ethic Mourinho wants in Madrid."

We'll see. The People's story also says that Roberto Mancini is closing in on deals for David Silva and Yaya Toure while reminding us of his admiration for Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Elsewhere, the Sunday Times have been pushing buttons on the office calculator and come up with £80m - the figure they think Roberto will be spending on three defensive men.

Reporter Duncan Castles includes Yaya in that scenario, as well as Benfica's Brazilian centre-back David Luiz, addding that City "are in the market" for another left back.

Newcastle want Vladi Weiss (Observer), Tottenham still want Micah Richards (People), and City are among the clubs looking at Sevilla's Luis Fabiano (News of the World).

Oh, and the NoW adds that boss Roberto wants Wolfsburg target Craig Bellamy to stay and play a leading role this season (just as we told you ages ago - smug WTPS Ed).
