Not even the eyebrow-raising events of the weekend - and we don't mean Chelsea winning the FA Cup - can knock the Blues off the sports pages as transfer speculation intensifies.

We've already been linked with Fernando Torres, with Steven Gerrard - and now James Milner, the best young performer of the season, is tossed into the equation via a Daily Mail exclusive.

He ticks all the boxes for Fabio Capello, as well as any Premier League club looking to improve, so it's a strong page lead on a day otherwise devoted to deep FA analysis.

Matt Lawton and Matt Barlow reckon that "City will give the first sign in the next 48 hours of their summer transfer spending power" with a tempting offer for Villa midfielder Milner.

They write: "Mindful of Fabio Capello's rule that England players must not negotiate transfers during World Cup duty, City have moved quickly. They expect Chelsea to compete for Milner and want to declare their interest first."

Their story adds: "The England midfielder has had an excellent season, but City believe Randy Lerner is ready to cash in on the former Leeds and Newcastle star. Lerner has told manager Martin O'Neill he must sell before he can buy.

"Milner, who has represented England at under-16, under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level, as well as senior level, has been destined for great things since bursting on to the scene as a 16-year-old at Leeds."

The transfer scene is likely to be busy this summer for plenty of clubs. The Mail also reports that Everton boss David Moyes, who likes Nedum Onuoha, would try for Craig Bellamy if he loses striker Yakubu.

Over at the Daily Star, top columnist Brian Woolnough ponders the odds for next season and discovers that, while City are 13-2 for the title, Carlos Tevez is 12-1 for the Golden Boot. Lump on lads, it'll pay for a holiday if that volcano ever gives it a rest.
