In amongst their big stories on Wayne Rooney and the Pakistani cricket team, the News of the World finds room for an interesting education tale.

Author Sophy Ridge reckons that three Premier League clubs are poised to ‘kick off’ a classroom revolution by setting up their own schools.

Under the headline ‘Swot Spurs’ - presumably because of the simple alliteration – Ridge tells readers that ‘Education Secretary Michael Grove has called on footie teams to help educate local kids through his radical free schools.

‘On the ball (see what she did there) directors at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Everton will meet the minister soon.

‘Mr Grove hopes a cash boost from clubs and the inspiration of their footie (is Ms Ridge Australian?) heroes will help pupils zoom up the league tables’.

The writer certainly gets ‘full marks’ for education puns!

Elsewhere, the People and the Sunday Express claim that the Blues will make a move for Newcastle central defender Steven Taylor at the end of the season.

According to Alan Oliver in the People City will wait until Taylor is a free agent in the summer before making a move.

‘When City supremos Garry Cook and Brian Marwood were both working for Nike, they gave Taylor a sponsorship deal when he was still a teenager and have followed his progress with interest,' says the piece.

Using similar logic Michael Jordan is also free!

The Sunday Mirror major on an interview with Emmanuel Adebayor in which the Blues striker talks to FHM about aiming for a top three place.

‘With the great new players we’ve got we have a wonderful chance to make history,’ he says. ‘We are a better now but we have to prove it.’

Finally, even though he has departed for Italy, Robinho still makes the papers. The Mirror reckons that Chelsea wanted to loan him and the Brazilian himself told Tom Hopkinson in the People that playing for City was like working in an office and that Manchester’s appalling weather got him down.

Just for the record Manchester’s average rainfall is 806mm whilst Milan Airport’s average is 985mm....buy a brolly Robi!
