City’s victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield has today’s press purring over a fine attacking display.

Henry Winter in The Telegraph says that the Blues were, “sharp, fluid and threatening” and singles out Carlos Tevez for particular praise saying,

"Tevez looks like a new signing, all slimmed down and fired up.

"He was exceptional here, a firefly with an eye for goal, and departed to a standing ovation, lifting his shirt to reveal a T-shirt paying homage to his roots in the Fuerte Apache quarter of Buenos Aires."

City manager Roberto Mancini underlined this view and thinks that the Argentine will be an important player for the Blues this season, telling The Guardian,

"I'm very happy because Carlos, this year, worked very well in pre-season

"His form is better than last year and, also, because I think this year he wants to play football. For a player, it's difficult not to play a game. Carlos, last year, was six months without a game, without a match. That's difficult. He's a top player. If he wants to play, he's one of the top.

"Last year, we had Carlos for the last 10 games and it was important, he scored five or six goals. But he was not 100%. This is the first time in the last four or five years that he's had a pre-season, and for every player that's important."

City’s striking options have also impressed ESPN’s Richard Jolly, who calls Tevez “an irrepressible bundle of energy, too short, sharp and skilful for John Terry's liking”

Jolly goes on to say,

"On current form, an Argentine alliance of Tevez and Aguero is City's strongest strike force. They linked up well, interchanging positions and forming a fluent front three with Nasri."

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo told Sky Sports that he thinks City start the season as favourites, a tag rejected by captain Vincent Kompany.
