Some transfer rumours refuse to go away, like a piece of chewing gum stuck on a shoe, they linger and cling onto the backpages with all their might - Daniele De Rossi to City is a perfect example.
De Rossi may have pledged his future to Roma in a pre-season press conference yesterday but Ian Ladyman of the Daily Mail believes that a deal may yet be struck for the midfielder.
It’s believed that De Rossi was Roberto Mancini’s number one transfer target this summer but De Rossi has moved to pour water on the speculation.
“I’m staying,” De Rossi said. “I never asked to leave. One club, the one you all know, made an enquiry. One or two others too, but that was just talk,” said the 29-year old.
“What I can promise everyone is that the day I want to leave Roma — whether it is to win the Champions League or make more money — I will say so in public.”
However, the paper believes that De Rossi privately intonated a desire to leave the Stadio Olimpico in the summer and that the club could be forced to sell the Italian international, if the price is right.
“City still believe that if they can strike a deal with Roma, then De Rossi may be persuaded to leave without losing face,” writes Ladyman.
One transfer saga that has come to an end is that of Emmanuel Adebayor who has finally made his switch to Tottenham permanent and another City striker could be set to follow him out of the door, according to InsideFutbol.com.
“Roque Santa Cruz is believed to be very close to agreeing to part ways from Manchester City, according to Madrid-based daily Marca, who expect the striker to join Real Betis,” it reads on the website.
“The Paraguay international spent last season on loan at the Spanish side and was a resounding success, making a good impression, leading the line well and enjoying regular first team football in La Liga.”
Finally, currently injured striker John Guidetti is still said to be assessing his options as he fights back from his lay off, with Lazio, Fiorentina, Siena and Sunderland keen to bring him in on loan, according to Sky Sports.
“It is expected that City will opt to send the Sweden international out on another season-long loan, and Guidetti will have plenty of proposals to consider should that prove to be the case,” the story reads.
"There are 15 clubs who have enquired about the options for John," Guidetti's representative Per Jonsson told Sportbladet.
"Right now there are negotiations with City. It's up to them, but I believe everything will work out in the end."
So there you have it, plenty of fuel for the fire but you’ll only find certainties on the Official Site as and when deals are confirmed.
Until tomorrow, rumour fans…
