Stats say Aguero is the real deal

A couple of City's strikers have cornered the market in publicity for one reason or another of late, but Sergio Aguero's excellent form rightly earns plenty of praise today.

Credit to TalkSport for their comparison of Kun to the great Dennis Bergkamp in his prime, and they flag up the fact that the Argentinean has found his feet in English football straight away - no mean feat in itself.

They chalk up a 2-1 win to Kun, with Bergkamp better on assists but our guy winning out on goals and overall involvement:

"Aguero has been involved in 20 league goals so far, either scoring or assisting, in 24 games this season. That's more than Bergkamp managed in his first season and the Invincibles' season, even though Aguero's played fewer games.

Bergkamp's rate for his best ever season - with two years in English football already under his belt - was marginally better, but considering it is Aguero's first season in the Premier League, this round goes to the Argentinean.

You won't be surprised that there is plenty of interest in the return of Carlos Tevez, and Sergio is widely quoted on the return of his fellow countryman. He pops up in UK newspapers and a plethora of sites such as Sporting Life, all picking up on lines such as:

"I am happy he is back. I think his return could be important for us in the decisive period of this season.

"He has been one of the best forwards in world football over the last few years. City need all the players we have to try and win titles."

Joleon Lescott Blackburn

There are even some previews of this evening's game against Blackburn Rovers, with Joleon Lescott discussing the threat posed by Yakubu, his old team mate from his Everton days in the Daily Express:

"Struggling Blackburn did City a massive favour with a shock win at Old Trafford but Lescott is wary of them completing a Manchester double, especially with former Everton team-mate Yakubu boasting the division’s best goals-per-shots strike rate.

“I know big Yak from my Everton days,” he said. “If you switch off for a second, he will punish you. He has scored a lot of goals recently and his record is up there with the best.

“None of us will doubt his ability come the weekend. It’s going to be a tough run-in whoever we play.

“There are no poor teams at the bottom. It’s consistency they lack. On any given day Blackburn can pull out a good result. Look at what they did at Old Trafford. We can’t think the game is won before we start.”
