What now for Carlos Tevez? Back to the future, reckon fans at his first club in Argentina.
The rebel striker (copyright all newspapers) remains in Buenos Aires despite being named in City's official Premier League squad after failing to clamber through the transfer window.
Goal.com reports: "Boca Juniors supporters have called on Tevez to return to the club where he started his professional career during Martin Palermo's testimonial at the weekend.
"He was expected to play alongside Palermo and other Boca Juniors legends in a match arranged in the retired goalscorer's honour, but Tevez eventually opted against featuring in order to avoid controversy.
Nevertheless, the striker entered the pitch at half-time, and his arrival was met with delight by the Boca fans
"'Leave the English, and come back over here!,' they chanted when the attacker walked onto the field.
"Tevez was being linked with AC Milan, Inter and Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window, but stayed with City in the end.
"Brazilian club Corinthians are yet to rule out a late swoop for their former star, although City's financial demands have previously scuppered the chance of a return to South America."
Back home, Joe Hart, an automatic choice for England these days, has shrugged off suggestions that he might be a decent choice as Fabio Capello's new skipper.
He tells football365.com: "I'm flattered to be linked with it but anyone who's having a consistent run in the England side is being linked with it.
"There are a lot stronger candidates than me. I don't have a view on who should be captain. As long as I'm playing I don't care."
Maybe he was just in one of those moods, having left a few people scratching their heads by describing the 3-0 Fulham win as "horrendous".
Meanwhile, ESPN confirm that City midfield target Daniele De Rossi has committed his future to Roma by signing a five-year contract extension.
