After the FA Cup semi-final dominated City headlines in recent days, it’s time to return to a good old dose of transfer speculation in this morning’s media reports.
First up is Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, who is quoted as identifying City, along with PSG, as a dream destination.
The Danish international has been linked with a host of clubs as the summer transfer window approaches, but favours the Blues over their Premier League rivals – according to the Daily Express.
James Dickenson writes: “The 21-year-old is a key player for Ajax, having scored nine times from midfield this season for the Amsterdam club.
"‘I'd like to play for a club like Manchester City or PSG,’ Eriksen told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad.
"‘For me it is important that I have a good feeling at the club.’”
Meanwhile, the same paper also suggests that City will face competition if they wish to sign Geoffrey Kondogbia from Sevilla.
The papers have linked the 20-year-old with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal as well as the Blues, but have now added Real Madrid to the mix.
“Spanish paper Marca ascertains Kondogbia is being lined up as a potential replacement for Xabi Alonso, who has been linked with an emotional return to Liverpool,” notes Charles Perrin.
Moving on to current Blues players, Goal.com reports that Gareth Barry will take a pay cut to remain with City past the end of this season.
The midfielder has received recognition for his excellent performances in recent weeks and gave another assured display against Chelsea at the weekend.
His value to Roberto Mancini is clear – there have been just six Premier League games this season that Barry hasn’t started.
“The former Aston Villa star, 32, is currently tied to a deal that expires in summer 2014 but is keen to remain a part of the first-team squad at the Etihad Stadium,” explains Paul Clennam.
“The England midfielder does, however, accept that he will be forced to take a pay cut to reduce the terms of his current £120,000-a-week deal, recognising that he would still struggle to receive an offer in that region from a divisional rival.”
Finally, after he netted City’s opening goal against Chelsea at the weekend, perhaps it’s no surprise that Samir Nasri is now reportedly attracting interest from elsewhere.
The Guardian reports that PSG director of football, Leonardo, has been impressed with the City man’s talents and could aim to tempt him back to France.
The paper’s Jamie Jackson writes: “PSG will look to strengthen their squad in the close season and Leonardo said: ‘The market is opening up. We may look in Spain or England. The idea of seeing the great French players here is something I like. I'm not necessarily talking about [Karim] Benzema, but maybe [Samir] Nasri, [Franck] Ribéry or [Yohan] Cabaye. But I do not know if it is feasible and I have not had contact with any of them.’”
