Fresh doubts have been cast over the future of City midfielder Gareth Barry in today’s papers.

Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to leave the England international in Manchester with Scott Sinclair and Denis Suarez for the final pre-season friendly against Arsenal today has left the press to speculate.

According to the Daily Mail, all three players could be moving on before the start of the season.

“Manchester City have yet to receive a bid from West Bromwich Albion for winger Scott Sinclair, 24, who is also wanted by Newcastle and Everton,” writes Paul Collins.

“He stayed behind to train in Manchester while City’s match squad travelled to Helsinki on Friday night.

“Midfielder Gareth Barry, linked with Arsenal and Stoke, and Barcelona target Denis Suarez, 19, also remained in Manchester.

“Asked if they are now set to leave the club, the manager Manuel Pellegrini said: ‘We’ll see next week. Scott Sinclair is not here with the squad.

“'Scott is in Manchester. Denis Suarez, Gareth Barry and Scott Sinclair are in Manchester.”’

Elsewhere, with City still widely expected to sign a centre back before the end of the transfer window, one man has ruled himself out of a switch.

Paolo Cannavaro of Napoli has rubbished reports of any potential move to City, with his agent proclaiming that the Italian wants to end his career in Naples.

“Cannavaro's current contract expires at the end of the forthcoming season, and the 32-year-old appears keen to remain despite rumours of interest from Premier League clubs, including Manchester City,” Sky Sports reported yesterday.

Meanwhile, the race is hotting up for Sevilla defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.

The Frenchman has been linked with City in the past but now it’s believed Arsenal and Real Madrid will contest for his signature.

“Reports in Italy suggest that the Gunners are the latest club to express interest in Kondogbia, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester City and Chelsea,” Ben Jefferson of the Express has written.

“But according to transfer website Tuttomercatoweb Arsenal's biggest rivals for the 20-year-old's signing will come from Spain, with Real Madrid also known to hold an interest in the player.”

Finally, Newcastle defender Steven Taylor has fired a warning to the Blues ahead of the opening Premier League match a week on Monday.

City boast an incredible recent record against the Magpies but Taylor thinks that Alan Pardew’s side could spring a surprise at the Etihad Stadium.

“Everybody is expecting Man City to take three very easy points – that’ll be everybody around the world and around the country,” Taylor told the Shields Gazette.

“It isn’t going to happen. We go into it really confident.

“We have players who are really fit now. We’ve got no real problems, only Loic Remy has a slight problem, but hopefully he will be involved as well.”
