It’s all systems go this morning as the month of January is well and truly upon us.
We’ll start with an interesting one which suggests both City and Chelsea are to be ‘offered,’ the services of Real Madrid star Fabio Coentrao.
“Chelsea and Manchester City could be set to fight it out for unwanted Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao, with the Spanish giants keen to offload the player this month,” reports The Metro.
“Both Chelsea and City were closing in on Coentrao during his time at Portuguese side Benfica, but missed out on the 24-year-old’s signature, with Madrid snapping him up for around £27million.
“But left-back Coentrao is likely to be on the market again having fallen out of favour at the Bernabeu, with the final straw coming on New Year’s Day when the Portuguese international reported late for training.
Manchester City may reignite their interest in Coentrao as cover for Gael Clichy.
According to The Independent, the Blues look set to lose out on the race to secure Fernando Llorente’s signature, with the Athletic Bilbao man likely to end up at Juventus.
“Juventus and various Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool, have been heavily linked with Llorente, who scored 24 goals last season to help propel Marcelo Bielsa's side to the final of the Europa League and a 10th place league finish” the paper reports.
‘“"Juventus Football Club informed Athletic Club on January 3 that, knowing Fernando Llorente will end his stint at our club on June 30, 2013, they will begin negotiations with the player to incorporate him into their squad," the statement read.”’
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, the Daily Mirror claims Aston Villa are weighing up a move for City defender Joleon Lescott.
“Owner Randy Lerner is set to back manager Paul Lambert this month in a bid to turn around the club's shaky form,” writes the paper’s James Nursey.
“Lescott, a local lad who grew up supporting Villa before playing for Wolves, Everton and now City, is available.
“But his large wages are an issue, as Lerner is still seeking to reduce player salaries, and both Everton and Sunderland are also interested in taking the 30-year-old.
“The £10million-rated ace will have to take a significant drop and negotiate with the champions for a pay-off to join Villa.”
There will be plenty more where this came from in the coming days and we will be bringing you all the reports and rumours until the month’s end.
But remember, mcfc.co.uk will be first to confirm any movements in or out of the club this winter.
