With just three days to go until the transfer window slams shut, it’s alleged that Juventus have joined the race for Mario Balotelli.
However, rumours that Mario hadn’t travelled with the squad to Loftus Road for tonight’s game and had instead boarded a plane to Italy proved to be well wide of the mark.
There’s no question that the Italian striker’s name has dominated City-centric transfer window stories but David Platt yet again denied any substance to the speculation in yesterday’s press conference.
That hasn’t stopped Jamie Jackson of The Guardian from stretching out the headlines over another day.
“Manchester City are in talks with Milan and Juventus over the transfer of Mario Balotelli and are exploring the option of loaning the striker out until the summer ahead of a permanent move,” Jackson wrote.
“The champions want around €23m (£19.75m) for the 22-year-old and it is understood that Milan have made an initial offer close to €20m.
“But last night Juventus also entered the bidding with City hoping their interest would help push up the price.
“The player is keen to return to his homeland and is willing to take what represents a small pay cut regarding the terms on offer, which are €5m a year tax-free, plus a sizeable signing-on bonus.”
In other news, Roma wonder kid Marquinhos is not joining City in January – that’s according to the Daily Mail.
“Roma have rejected an approach from Manchester City for their 18-year-old Brazilian defender Marquinhos,” the story reads.
“The Brazil U17 international, valued at £5m, is also being eyed by Real Madrid.”
Finally, Oldham’s FA Cup fourth round hero Reece Wabara is being linked with a loan move to Championship promotion chasers, Crystal Palace.
“Crystal Palace want to hijack Oldham's plans to keep FA Cup hero Reece Wabara,” the story in today’s Sun declared.
“The defender, 21, returned to Manchester City yesterday after finishing his loan spell.
“Wabara, who scored in Latics' 3-2 win over Liverpool, admitted: ‘I may have played my last game for Oldham but I've left with some precious memories.’”
