Today’s top story concerns Malaga midfielder Isco who is said to be close to agreeing a move to City.
Malaga have not officially confirmed that the Spanish international will be leaving the La Liga outfit but that hasn’t stopped a number of newspapers speculating that a move to the Etihad Stadium is close.
The talented playmaker has been heavily linked with City since the January transfer window and now Mark Ogden of the Daily Telegraph believes that a £17m deal is within touching distance.
“With Malaga facing financial difficulties, the Champions League quarter-finalists will reluctantly sanction the sale of Isco, who was revealed as a Manchester City target by Telegraph Sport last November, to any club that triggers the £17 million escape clause in the 21-year-old’s contract,” Ogden writes.
“City sporting director Txiki Begiristain has identified Isco as a target having watched the player in recent weeks, but having earned his first full Spain cap against Uruguay in February the youngster is also attracting the attention of Real Madrid.
“Pellegrini’s impending move to Manchester City – the club are hopeful of an agreement being finalised at the beginning of June – is expected to boost the club’s prospects of winning the race for Isco, however.”
Elsewhere, another reported midfield target, Shakhtar’s Fernandinho, is apparently desperate to join the Blues and has asked the Ukrainian club to lower their asking price to try and force a move.
The Brazilian has been retweeting City-related transfer stories from his official Twitter account in a move that has been taken as an attempt to force a move to Manchester – that’s according to the Manchester Evening News.
Fernandinho retweeted one comment that read: "love you already for wanting a #mcfc move so badly! Hope to see you in a blue shirt soon! #legend"
And also: "Can't wait to see you at City!"
What an age we live in!
Finally, in yet more transfer gossip (you can tell the summer is coming), the papers’ favourite for the vacant manager’s job at City, Manuel Pellegrini, has reportedly drawn up a list of five players to join him at the Etihad Stadium.
The Daily Star’s Paul Brown believes that Pelligrini will be followed to Manchester by Isco, Angel Di Maria, Jesus Navas, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Marcos Reus.
Quite the shopping list, I'm sure you'll agree - they don't call it silly season for nothing...
