MEN: Jovetic set to be a City hit

Stevan Jovetic is set to be a big hit in England, according to today’s reports.

His country may have gone down 4-1 to the Three Lions at Wembley, but the Montenegrin striker showed off his skills in a classy display, and the Manchester Evening News has predicted he will shine in a City shirt in the coming months.

Jovetic

Writes David Lynch: “Despite having netted twice in the League Cup win over Wigan last month, it would be fair to say that Jovetic has endured a frustrating start to his City career. A series of niggles have prevented the attacker from hitting top gear in the Premier League as yet, but a fine performance for his country on Friday showed that he is sure to be a success in England.

“The 23-year-old was lively and threatening throughout, and came within inches of scoring a beauty only to be denied by the woodwork.”

Good news for City fans, whichever national side you support…

It’s an international break, which means that plenty of transfer speculation is filling column inches deprived of top tier domestic action this weekend.

We begin with Talksport, which claims City are interested in taking Malaga stopper Willy Caballero to the Etihad Stadium in January.

The 32-year-old won plaudits in Spain for his role in getting Manuel Pellegrini’s then side into the Champions League quarter finals, and reports suggest the City boss is keen to stage a reunion.

The report reads: “Caballero is on his radar - the pair know each other well from their time at Malaga - and a bid in January is in the pipeline.

“City have been linked with Real Madrid's Iker Casillas but Caballero is seen as a more realistic option.”

Goalkeepers are the theme of the day, with the Daily Mail suggesting City will do battle with Manchester United to land 15-year-old Kjetil Haug.

The Norwegian has been dubbed the ‘new Schmeichel’ (that’s Peter, by the way), and is said to have a number of Premier League sides chasing his signature.

Adam Crafton explains: “United face stiff competition to capture Haug, who is this month set to train with Manchester City for a three day spell and the goalkeeper has also been invited to spend time with both Arsenal and Everton later on this year.”
