Sunday morning is the perfect time for a dose of transfer gossip with your cornflakes – at least, today’s papers seem to think so!
Yesterday the MEN reported the midfielder was seeking guarantees over his future before committing to another year - has Brendan Rodgers been reading the papers, I wonder?!
Tom Hopkinson and Neil Moxley report: “Rodgers, who is set to add QPR's France striker Loic Remy to his list of summer purchases, has made tentative inquires about City outcast Milner – and been encouraged by the response.
“Champions City are ready to dangle a new four-year deal, but Milner is fed up being a bit-part player after just 11 Premier League starts last season.
“Everton and Arsenal are also in the hunt for the midfielder, and his old club Aston Villa are keen, but the Kop club are favourites should the 28-year-old decide to quit the Etihad bench.”
Moving on, and the Eliaquim Mangala story moves into another day, with Caught Offside suggesting (via reports abroad) that Raul Albiol could be a target should City decide to give up on the Porto centre-back.
Albiol has worked with Pellegrini before, and according to the story the Chilean could try and persuade him to swap Naples for Manchester after just one season in Italy.
Writes Mark Brus: “The 28-year-old only joined the Italian side last summer after making a £9.4m move from Real Madrid, but his impressive performances in Serie A appear to have caught the eye of City manager Manuel Pellegrini.
“The former Valencia man played under Pellegrini for his one season in charge at the Bernabeu in 2009/10, and may be tempted to do so again if he receives an offer from the Premier League champions.
“Porto centre-back Eliaquim Mangala has also been touted as a top target for the club, though with the proposed deal seeming to move slowly, it may be that Pellegrini is now considering other options, with Albiol emerging as a strong candidate to come in.”
Ifs, buts and maybes galore!

Finally, with pre-season in full swing for most Premier League sides, talk in some quarters is already turning to next term’s title race.
Jose Mourinho is certainly eyeing up next May’s prize, and while he has his sights set on wrestling the Premier League trophy away from the Etihad Stadium, he knows he has a fight on his hands and it seems he is yet to decide who is the little horse.
The Chelsea boss is quoted in The National as saying: “Why I like the Premier League so much is that at this moment, nobody knows who is going to win the title.
“I know that we want to and I know that we can, but it is the kind of competition where I can’t say.
“At this moment, I think between us, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man United, Man City – who is going to be first, who is going to play in the Europa League, I don’t know.”
All five teams will officially be back in the competitive saddle in less than a month, but in the meantime you can follow the English Champions’ preparations in the USA right here on mcfc.co.uk from Monday.
