Chilean international midfielder David Pizarro signed for City on loan just before the end of the transfer window in January 2012.

Born in Valparaiso, David started out with Santiago Wanderers and made his debut for the national side aged just 20. He started a long stint in Italy with Udinese, but was loaned back to his homeland for a spell with Universidad de Chile before returning to make a name for himself with the Serie A side.

After six years with Udinese, David moved to Inter Milan where, under the management of Roberto Mancini, he helped them to the Italian title, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. But with fierce competition for places, it was not the happiest time for David despite the honours the side won, and he left for Roma after a year at the San Siro.

There he teamed up with his former boss at Udinese, Luciano Spaletti, and enjoyed the best spell of his career as an intelligent, deep-lying playmaker. He came close to another Scudetto in 2009/10 when Roma pushed Inter all the way before finishing second in Serie A. He did, however, help Roma to two Italian Cups and the Super Cup during his time in the Eternal City.

On the international front, David won 36 caps for Chile but retired from international football after they failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup Finals.

He reunited with Roberto Mancini at City when a loan deal agreed was agreed at the tail-end of the 2012 January transfer window. With his wealth of experience, David will be an excellent addition to the manager’s options as City make their title tilt.
