Community Facilities & Access
For everyone, all year round
Manchester City Football Club is firmly rooted within its community and our award winning City in the Community scheme touches 220,000 lives a year.
Our plans enable the scheme, together with our partners Etihad Airways, to widen our community programmes centred around Football, Health and Activity, Community Cohesion and Skills and Enterprise.
The Club has already provided additional football facilities to be used by more than 10,000 local young people a year at the Football and Tennis Centre adjacent to the Etihad Campus. Use of the 7,000 capacity stadium and certain pitches on the site will increase that figure substantially.
More importantly, Manchester City Football Club has donated 5.5 acres of the 80 acre site to the community for their use. Manchester City Council, taking local feedback into account, is now leading the development of further education and community leisure facilities on this site.
Connell College ‘topping out’ event
The education facility located on the CFA site, The Connell Sixth Form College, held a ‘topping out’ ceremony in January to mark the progress of the build to date. The practice, which can be traced to ancient Scandinavia, is used to celebrate important junctures in the construction of buildings. The event was attended by representatives from the Club, Manchester City Council and the College.
Beswick Leisure Centre celebration event
The Beswick Leisure centre has also held a celebration event to mark the progress of their build. On Monday, 3rd February, Manchester City Football Club, Manchester City Council, local community groups and others attended a ceremony which involved the burying of a time capsule to commemorate the project. Memorabilia donated by the Club included a match day programme from the latest fixture at the Etihad Stadium, amongst other items.
